Defence & Technology Transfer

India and France have moved from a buyer-seller relationship to a partnership of co-design and co-production.

  • IOL-Safran Deal: Transfer of technology for SIGMA 30N (Navigation) and CM3-MR (Firing Sight).
  • Horizon 2047: A roadmap for the next 25 years focusing on sovereignty and innovation.

Strategic History & Support

The partnership began on January 26, 1998. France supported India after the 1998 nuclear tests and was the first to sign a civil nuclear deal post-NSG waiver in 2008.

Digital & Global Impact

  • UPI: Launched from the Eiffel Tower for Indian tourists.
  • Supercomputers: France's Atos collaborated with India to build 14 supercomputers, including Param Siddhi.
  • Space: Over 50 years of partnership between ISRO and CNES.

France also supports India's permanent seat in the UN Security Council and membership in the NSG.
