1891 April 14: Born in Mhow, Central Provinces (now Madhya Pradesh), India.
1897 Family moves to Satara.
1906 Marries Ramabai.
1907 Enrolls at Elphinstone High School, Bombay.
1912 Graduates from Elphinstone College, Bombay University.
1913 Goes to Columbia University, New York, for higher studies.
1916 Presents his paper "Castes in India: Their Mechanism, Genesis and Development."
1916 Enrolls at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
1917 Returns to India due to the expiration of his Baroda State scholarship.
1920 Starts the weekly newspaper "Mooknayak" (Leader of the Silent).
1923 Establishes the "Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha" (Outcastes Welfare Association).
1927 Leads the Mahad Satyagraha for the right of untouchables to access public water.
1930 Participates in the Round Table Conferences in London.
1932 Signs the Poona Pact with Mahatma Gandhi.
1936 Founds the Independent Labour Party.
1947 Appointed as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution.
1949 November 26: The Constituent Assembly adopts the Constitution of India.
1951 Resigns from the Cabinet due to disagreements over the Hindu Code Bill.
1956 Converts to Buddhism along with his followers.

1990 Posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
